Bigs with Badges

Who We Are: Bigs in Blue/Bigs with Badges

We are a mentoring based program matching littles with bigs who are in badges. These relationships are building bridges between police and men and women in badges and their communities they serve.

Having a mom or dad in prison can make growing up more difficult. Children with an incarcerated parent often need additional support and guidance. Big Brothers Big Sisters' Bigs with Badges program places men and women in badges (police officers & firemen) with children in our programs who have a negative cogitation of law enforcement  or who have a parent who is incarcerated or who may be adjudicated themselves. The goal of the program is to improve relations between at risk children and police officers in our community. These relationships are building bridges between police and the communities they serve. We are actively recruiting Volunteers who wear badges to become Bigs to our Littles.

Recently, the Today Show highlighted the story of Little Brother Robert and Big Brother Ryan, a dectective with the Roanoke, Virginia, Police Department. Ryan meets up with Robert to do homework, play games, and run sprints.
